Implications of mental illness

It is a well-known fact that psychological disorders have a devastating impact on sufferers, and they affect patients in a wide range of areas. However, we still lack methods for more specific analysis of the implications of mental illness.

Oleguer Plana-Ripoll – 35, senior researcher at the National Centre for Register-based Research, Aarhus University – will use his Lundbeck Foundation Fellowship to establish a research group that will seek to develop new methods for exploring these implications.

The methods will be able to “chew through” and analyse huge volumes of information, extracted, for example, from health data. And, according to Oleguer Plana-Ripoll, there is an urgent need for methods of this kind, to give us a better understanding of the true scope of the implications of mental illness.

During the course of the project, Oleguer Plana-Ripoll and his colleagues will map these implications with respect to educational patterns, labour market affiliation, general public health and premature death.

Oleguer Plana-Ripoll is receiving a grant worth DKK 10 million.
