The human brain consists of billions of cells called neurons, connected by trillions of synapses. How do these connections form when our brain is developing? How are these connections modified in ways that allow us to learn, form memories and adapt to the world around us? In this full-length documentary, we will answer these questions by looking inside a neuron. Inside every neuron is a molecular universe consisting of billions of proteins- the components of the molecular machines that are essential for every function a neuron performs. As part of our scientific outreach activities related to The Brain Prize, the Lundbeck Foundation organizes The Brain Prize webinars- a series of online seminars that are free to attend and that are related to the topic of the current year’s Brain Prize. In 2023 The Brain Prize was awarded to Michael Greenberg, Christine Holt, and Erin Schuman for their ground-breaking discoveries by showing how the synthesis of new proteins is triggered in different parts of the neuron, thereby guiding brain development and plasticity in ways that impact our behaviour for a lifetime. This year’s webinar series consists of 6 webinars. Each webinar consists of three talks followed by an open discussion and Q&A session.
