Dynamic network modelling of depression: towards personalised treatment targets

Associate Professor
University of Southern Denmark

Associate professor Maria Semkovska will develop models that map how everyday symptoms – such as lack of sleep and loneliness – interact through time with the person’s activities, mental abilities and life events to lead to depression.

Using existing Danish Twin Registry data the project aims to determine paths to depression and the contribution of genes; that is, if identical twins follow the same path to depression. Similar models will be derived from following people who recovered from depression to explain the differences between those who remain recovered and those who return to a depressive state.

She has received a Lundbeck Foundation Ascending Investigator research grant of DKK 4,364,318.
