Associate Professor
The Technical University of Denmark

Jan Becker Høgsberg, associate professor, Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, has been awarded a Lundbeck Foundation LF Experiments research grant worth DKK 1,857,356.

Essential tremor is a neurological disorder that causes physical vibrations of mainly the hand to upper limp region. For patients that are not eligible or receptive to medical treatment, various bulky orthoses have been proposed for mechanical damping of tremor. The present project proposes a compact and lightweight device that is installed between screws in the forearm bone. The goal of the project is to develop a comfortable and effective device, which constitutes a genuine alternative to medical or surgical treatment of all forms of tremor that involve non-voluntary motion of the hand-to-forearm region.
