Eunjoon Kim

Dr. Eunjoon Kim is the Director of the Center for Synaptic Brain Dysfunctions at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS). He is also a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Dr. Kim's research has focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie the development and plasticity of excitatory synapses. His recent work has explored how defects in synaptic and neuronal proteins can cause a range of neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders, including autism spectrum disorders. 

He is an elected member of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and is serving as the co-editor-in-chief of Current Opinion of Neurobiology. Dr. Kim has received several awards, including the Asan Award in Medicine (2018), the POSCO Chung-Am Award (2013), and the Inchon Award (2012). Dr. Kim was an assistant and associate professor at KAIST from 2000 to 2009 and a lecturer and assistant professor at Busan National University from 1997 to 2000. He received postdoctoral training at Harvard University from 1995 to 1996 and earned his Ph.D. at Michigan State University in 1994 and a bachelor's degree in pharmacology at Busan National University in 1986.
